A circular letter from tradesmen and manufacturers of Patmerstou North was received, pointing cut the injustice done them by officials in the Defence Department being allowed to import dutiable goods free of Customs duties. It was resolved to refer the matter to Mr. Herries, M.H.It, for the district, and ask him to assist in getting an inquiry instituted into the alleged irregularities. The clerk was instructed to apply to the Acclimatisation Society for a supply of ynunir trout, with which to stock the Karapiro Creek. C. Crouch's tender of lid per yard was accepted for gravelling. At the S.M. Court to-day, before Captain Jackson, two men named McGreevy and Wright were charged with procuring liquor for a prohibited person on the 18th March last. The Magistrate held that as the prohibition order has been granted by two Justices of the Peace, it was invalid, and dismissed the information.
