The Northern Company's steamer Wellington arrived from Whangarei last night, md leaves for the same place again to-night. Last night the Northern Company's steamer tona arrived from the Great Barrier. She leaves to-night for Kennedy's Bay, Knaotunu, »nd Mercury Bay. The Northern Company's steamer Douglas left for Whangarei last evening. Early this morning the Northern Company's steamer Clansman arrives from the North, and leaves for Taurauga in the evening. At noon co-day the Northern Company's steamer Chelmsford leaves for Whakatane. On discharge of her cargo of coal from Westport, the barquentine Frank Guy will proceed to the Clarence River to load hardwood timber for a New Zealand port. The Kauri Timber Company's brig Vision arrived at the Kaipara from this port yesterday to load timber tor Fremantle. » it has been decided not to berth the American barque Charles G. Rice until early next week. Messrs. Arnold, Cheney, and Co., the agents, notify that the vessel will commence discharging on Tuesday next. The Union Company's steamer Ovalau called in at Russell yesterday for coals, and left for Tonga, in the evening. On Good Friday the Northern Company's p.B. Wakatere will run an excursion to the lower end of Waiheke. Yesterday morning the new steamer Manama, from this port to Wellington, leit Castle Point.

According to information supplied by the Registrar - General of Shipping, 558 new vessels, of 920,961 tons, have been classed by Lloyd's Register during the year 1896. Of these 495, of 853,579 tous, are steamers, and 80, of 67,382 tone, are sailing vessels. Compared with the similar figures for 1895, the present return shows an increase of 33,000 as regards steamers and 15,000 as regards sailing vessels. Of the tonnage classed during the year, 877,174 tons, or 95J per cent., have been built in the United Kingdom. Among foreign couutries France contributed the largest amount of tonnage. The largest steamers recently buile and classed at Lloyd's during the year 1896 were the Cestrian, of 8761 ions: the India, of 7911 tons; the China, of 7809 tons; and the Algoa, of 7575 tons register. The largest suiting ships were the Caroline and Montmorency, each of 3015 tons renter; while the Rhone, of 3111 tons, was built in France. The largest sailing vewrl l>nilt in England during 1895 was the Lady Wcntworth, classed at 2715 tons register. THE TAURANGA. H.M.s. Tauranga is to leave Sydney for Auckland as soon as the relief crew arrives from Plymouth by the Port Arthur. The Taurauga h'ns been in reserve at Sydney for tome time past, but her place will now uc taken by the Katoomba. The Hoyalist, ut present in Calliope Dock, and the Lizard, which leaves Lyttclton for Auckland on the 13th inst., will awwit the arrival of the Taurauga.

THE DUKE OV SUTHERLAND. The s.s. Duke of Sutherland, under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company, leaves Wellington for London on the 22nd inst. She has excellent accommodation for a few saloon passengers, and as the fare has been reduced to <io guineas she should have no difficulty in getting her cabins full.

THE SKA KING. The, repairs to the American barque Sea Rini; are so far advanced that the vessel will be floated out of the Auckland Dock to-day. During the time that the vessel has been in dock she has been stripped, re-caulked, and metalled, the whole work only occupying ten days, and Captain Pearce expresses himself an highly pleased at the expedition used by Messrs. Bailey Brothers in carrying out the work. The barque will hare her mainmast shipped and other repairs effected in the stream. As soon as everything is finished the Sea King will sail fur Newcastle to load coal for either Honolulu or San Francisco,
