AN IMPORTANT FRIENDLY SOCIETY CASE.

« [BY TEI.EORAI'II.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Timamj, Wednesday. A case interesting to friendly societies commenced in the Magistrate's Court today. Homo years ago the friendly societies in Timnru combined to establish a dispensary, putting in a capital of 15s per momber and paying anannual lovy per member for the carrying on of the institution, At first this levy was G* a year, but this prated insufficient, and in 18% it was made 10s, and in subsequent years 9s. Last June the Druid Society withdrew, and was repaid the balance of its capital advances, nothing being said of any other claim. In September, three months after the retirement, a claim was made for the first time for a share of the accumulated profits, which, according to the June balance sheet, were shown in excess of assets over liabilities to bo £705, the Druids claiming £141 as their share. Plaintiff's chief witness said these profits accumulated through excessive quarterly lovios. The plaintiffs case was concluded, and the council for the defendant Dispensary Board moved for a nonsuit on various grounds, The case was then adjourned for a week for a reply.
