THE CHARLES O. RICE. The American barque, Charles G. Rice, Captain J. A, Rose, arrived from New York yesterday afternoon with a cargo ot kerosene and general merchandise. This is the third visit of the barque to this port, though Captain Rose is on his first trip. The voyage, which has occupied 119 days, has been somewhat lengthened, owing to contrary winds being met with along the coast, the vessel taking ten days to come down from the North Cape to port. In latitude 43 deg. South, a large quantity of ice was sighted, some of the bergs being very large, and gome just awash. The barque was three days in getting clear of the ice. Captain Rose reports :-The Charles G. Rice sailed from New York on December 9, and met with easterly and north-easterly winds until crossing the equator on January 2. The northeast trades proved very poor. The southeast trades proved steady. Passed the meridian of the Cape of Good Hope on February 7. Ran the easting down between 40deg. and 41deg. S., very thick weather and heavy galea prevailing and continuing until passing Tasmania on March 21. Fine weather and fair winds were experienced thenco to the North Cape, which was passed on the 29th. Thence to arrival southerly and southeasterly winds, moderate to strong, were met with. Thevessel, which comes to the agency of Messrs. Arnold, Cheney, and Co., will be berthed at the Quay-street jetty this morn : ing, and on discharge will load with kauri gum and flax for New York. THE LIZARD. H.M.s. Lizard is to leave Lyttelton for Auckland on Tuesday next. During her stay at this port the ship will be floated into Calliope Dock for general overhaul. THE COROMANDEL. The New Zealaud Times of Saturday says :— Yet another attempt to raise the sunken barque Coromamlel has proved futile. Yesterday morning three centrifugal pumps were set at work, two in the forward part of the vessel being worked by steam from the Mana and the Flower of Kent, while the engine on the lighter Spec supplied the mative power for the pump at the stern, For a time everything worked smoothly, but in the afternoon, when the tide was near its highest, and when about six feet of water had been pumped out of the vessel's hold, her decks proved unequal to the strain from the outside, and once again the water rushed in.
