SPORTING.

AUCKLAND RACING CLUB'S AUTUMN MEETING.

The beautiful weather we have been experiencing of late has greatly facilitated training operations at Ellerslie, and the tracks being all in capital order the labours and anxiety of trainers have as a necessary consequence been greatly relieved. Since Dayst«,r's return to Auckland he has been a regular attendant at the training ground, and his condition is such as to show that the severe amount of rasing exacted from him at Napier has had a beneficial rather than a weakening effect upon him. Yesterday morning the son of Castor moved very resolutely in his work, though he was not, required to exert himself beyond half pace. St. Paul, who also looks well, was responsible for a good working gallop over a mile and a half, in the accomplishment of which he left no reason for complaint. Nestor performed a like task to St. Paul, moving strongly and finishing satisfactorily. There is very little business being transacted on the leading events, both backers and layers showing a desire to hold off until after the acceptances on Friday. The following prices were quoted last night

Easter Handicap, 2 to 1 asst. Dayitar 3 to 1 — St. Paul 6 to 1 — Nestor .Bto I—— Fabulist 10 to SO to 1 others Easter Handicap and Steeplechase. 10 to l agst Dnystar and Levanter 100 to 8 - J)ay>tar and Kingswood ICO to 8 — St. Paul and Levanter ion to 0 - St Paul and Kingswood 100 to 6 — Nestor and Levanter 10:1 to 5 — Nestor and Kinuswood 60 to 1 commencing any other way

Air. T. H. Lowry's two-year-old colt St. Conon is expected to arrive by the Manapouri with a view to fulfilling his engagement in the Champagne Stakes.
