CONVALESCENT HOME.

TO THE EDITOR. Slß,~Last month I wrote a letter to yon on the subject of an appropriate commemoration of the jubilee of the 60 years' reign of our beloved Queen, suggesting the erection of a convalescent home for poor patients, both adults and children. 1 should like to point out that the City, Boroughs of Devonport and Birkenhead possess a valuable piece of land at Kauri Point, North Shore, with deep water, and which can be approached at any state of the tide. This would be an admirable position if a sufficient sum could be collected for this purpose. No doubt £1 for £1 collected would be paid by the Government, as in cases of similar institutions. It is to be hoped that the commemoration of this unexampled event will take some practical and useful form of benefit to the poor and afflicted, as intimated by the Prince of Wales on behalf of Her Majesty.-I am, etc., April 4,1897. P. A. Philifs.
