THE BOAT RACE.

PARTICULARS OF THE EVENT. Preei AMOdaHon.-El«tric Telesraph.-Copyri K h« London, April 4. In the University boat race Cambridge won the toss and selected the Middlesex side of the river. They got away with the lead, but failed to maintain their advantage for any distance. At Olswpar's Oxford had half a length lead, the mile being covered in 3ra. 355. The dark blues, who were rowing strongly, gradually forged ahead, and shot through Hammersmith Bridge with a lead of a dear length in 7m. 20s. Al Chiswick the lead was increased to two lengths, and Barnes Bridge was passed with Oxford three lengths ahead. At this stage the light blues began to show signs of distress. They, however, made several gallant spurts, but were quite outclassed. Oxford won easily at the finish. The time for the full course was 19m. 12s.
