ROAD-MAKING AT GREAT BARRIER ISLAND.

TO TIIK EDITOl:. Sib,— six months ago a meeting was held to form a Council or a Road Hoard for the Great Barrier' Island, but it seems with no successful result, for since that time no further steps have been taken. I am given to understand that there is a grant of £200 for road-making, and not a single thing has been done to carry out the formation of a road anywhere. Now the weather has broken the miners and some of the settlers an keenly alive to the fact that the pack tracks will become impassable. This is of considerable importance, and will turn out to be a serious obstacle to the mining population, as well as settlers, before the winter is on. It was supposed the road-making would have been carried out at once, but everything in connection with it appears to be in a muddle, as no one takes the lead, nor does anyone know who should. Will you kindly allow me, through the medium of your paper, to call the attention of those interested to the fact that something should be done before the winter sets in.— l am, etc., A_SITR.SOR.IBER.
