The coantry lists will probably bring Hawke's Bay contributions to £500. Wellington, Wednesday, In order to prevent dissatisfaction at children from small schools having to compete for scholarships against) those attending schools with a large teaching staff, the Board of Education proposes to classify them on the basis of attendance. The Arbitration Board has been called on to settle the dispute between the sailors and the Cook Strait shipowners. Chbistohoroh, Wednesday. The Rev. G. M. O'Connor, Roman Catholic priest, died at lUnsriora this morning. He had been in ill-health for some months. Deceased was 39 years, and had been in the colony for 15 years, for ten of which he was in charge of Rangiora. Mr. Thomas Merrick, who has been identified for many years with charitable work at the City Mission Home, died early this morning from hemorrhage. Mr. Augustus Dyer, teacher of laundry work in the Christchurch school of domestic instruction, died suddenly on Monday.
