[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Thames, Tuesday. To-morrow's licensing election is creating' considerable interest, and ib is believed that a large number of votes will be recorded. There are ten candidates altogether, five of whom comprise the uoderate ticket and the remainder the prohibition ticket. It is anticipated that the lolling will bo close,as both parties are dt.tnainecl to do their utmost to score a victory. An elderly man named Cruickshank, employed as foreman carpenter upon a now building in course of erection next to Patterson's (tinsmith) shop in Pollen-street, met with a bad accident late this afternoon, It appears that Cruickshank, who is a recent) arrival from Wanganui, was at work on the second floor lifting some joists, when his feet slipped from under him, and caused him to fall a diatanco of several feet to the ground, widh the result that his right arm and soveral of his ribs were broken. He also sustained a very severe shaking. He was at once conveyed to the hospital, where he was attended to by Dr. Williams, but his condition is considered to be serious.

The young man Agnew, who was shot in Pollen-atreet on Saturday night, is progressing favourably at the hospital, and appears to be in no immediate danger. No effort has yet been made to extricate the bullet,
