Captain Russell, M.H.R., is jusb recovering from a rather severe illness. The Hon. W. Rolleston, M.H.R.,was the guesb of Mr. E. Mitchelson, yesterday. Mr. J. H. Jnll, who has been stationmaster at. Waipawa for 12 years, and who retires next month, has bean presented by the traffic staff with a handsome marble clock suitably inscribed. • TheappointmentofMr, F. J. Carter, M. A., as assistant master at) the Wellington College to fill thevananey caused by the death of Mr. H, S. Cocks, has been confirmed by the College Governors. Mr. Carter, who takes up his new duties on the let March, is at present master of a school ab Pihama, near Hawera. Mr. H. Burr, stationmaster ab Waverley for a number of years, was presented last Monday evening" by the residents with a - purse of 40 sovereigns, as a slighb acknowledgment of the universal esteem in which he was held by the residents. He proceeds to Frankton Junction, which means promotion for him. Mr. F. Hyde, of the Lands and Survey Department for some time privato secretary to the Hon. J. G. Ward, haa found it neceseary to undergo an operation for an internal disorder. The operation was performed a few days ago at Dunedin by Dr. Batchelor, and the many friends of Mr. Hyde will be glad to learn tbat it was successful, and tbab there is every prospect of his rapid recovery. ' Ib is with regret that we (New Zealand Times) have to record the death of Mrs. Jane Bromley, who died on Monday. Mrs. Bromley was the widow of the late William Bromley, of H.M. Customs, and stepdaughter of the late Mr. J. F. B. Wright, of Happy Valley Station. The deceased lady arrived in the colony in 1841. Mrs. Bromley's death will be regretted by the residents of Fahautanui, where she once resided and was much respected. The deceased lady had been confined to her bed for the past 17 years, owing to an accident which befell her in early life.

MISSING EMENDS. The following inquiries for missing friends are from Lloyd's Weekly for January, 17 and 24 :— • -Mre. Hornet was last known to be in Mew Zealand about 12 years ago. Sister Frances would like to hear from her. Ellen, Jane, and Thomas Gittens were in New Zealand in 1891. Sister Julia asks. William Williams, of Pwllbeli, Carnarvonshire, went to New Zealand 35 to 40 years ago; supposed now to be in South Africa. Brother Owen aske. Samuel and Joseph Rowley, hairdressers, in Wellington, New Zealand, about five years ago; are sough b by Charles Rowley.
