SALES OF FRUIT.

TO THK EDITOR. Sir,—As I. know you are very much in-' terested regarding the growing and disposal of fruit, would you kindly allow me to correct an error which I think a large number . of fruitgrowers labour under. Most growers - are nnder the impression that the public generally attend auction sales and run up the price of fruit, but if a grower takes the trouble to attend the sales he will find 9i) times out of 100 the competition is amongst the trade only. Such private buyers as attend sales wait until the goods are knocked [4 down, and then hold up their hands for one 1 or two boxes. They attend sales only for ; 4>l the express purpose of saving money, ami have no knowledge of the market value of '.;:'' fruit.— etc.,- E.
