INTERPROVINCIAL FOOTBALL. The weather, though somewhat doubtful throughout Saturday, Sept. 5, continued sufficiently fine to warrant a large attendance (some 6000) at Potter's Paddock, Epsom, to witness the concluding number of this season's intorprovincial football fixtures, that between the Auckland and Otago representatives. The result of the play was that Otago won by 8 points to nil. Wellington, September 5. In the football match, Wellington v. Wairarapa, played this afternoon, the local team won by 16 points to 3. Wellington, September 9, The football match, Wellington v. Wanganui, was played this afternoon, in the presence of 700 spectators. The game resulted in a win for Wellington by 20 points to 9. The Napier, September 10. The inter - provincial match, Otago v. Hawke's Bay, was played to-day iu perfect weather. Some 1000 spectators were present, Mr. Logan acting as referee, Otago won by 25' points to S. Wellington, September 13. The Interprovincial Match between Otago and Wellington took place at the Athletic Park yesterday afternoon. The weather was beautiful, the ground dry, and no wind to mar the game, Considerable interest had been aroused in the match, and there was the largest attendance present since the English men played in 1888, the number reaching 4000. As was not altogether unexpecied the match resulted in a draw, neither side being able to score, though each crossed the ball to the opposite line once, only, however, to be ssnt back by the referee. In the first half Otago Inveroargill, September 23. The intorprovincial football match, Otago v. Southland, was played this afternoon, bofore 2000 spectators. The match was won by the local team by 11 points to nil. THE ASSOCIATION TOURNAMENT. AUCKLAND WINS THE SHIELD. Donedin, September 9. The first round of the New Zealand Football Association Tournament was held to-day on the Caledonian Grouud in the presence of a fair number of spectators. The day was perfect, except that it was rather too warm for the players. Tho match was between Auckland and Otago, and resulted in a win for Auckland by 3 goals to nil. • * September 12. The final of the New Zealand Football Association's ■ Tournament for the - Brown trophy was played on the Caledonian ground before a fair attendance to-day. A strong wind was blowing across the ground, otherwise the day was beautiful. A stubbornlycontested game ended in a win for Auckland, who, hold the trophy for a year, by two goaU to one.

A trotting match for a thousand sovs (£SOO a-sido) between Messrs. W. and C. Kerr's horse Wildwood and Mr. D. Price's horse Prince Imperial, was decided at New Brighton racecourse, Christchurch, on the 24th of • September. The conditions . were that the stakes should go to the winner of two out of three one-milo heats, Wildwood won the first heat by a neck, time. 2m. 385., and the second by sixty yards, time 2m. 24|s. The New Zealand Golf Championship final was played off at Dunedin on Sept, 25 in boisterous weather/ The match was an' exciting one, and balf-way round the players were square, but in the end M. S.
