Daring the time that the steamer waa laid up at Sydney «he was placed in dock, and underwent a complete overhaul aud renovation in all departments. The hull underwent a thorough examination at the hands of the surveyors, and was found to be in perfect oondltion; in fact, it is said that the hull Is almost as (rood as when the vessel was launched. Rolling chocki, 15} inches wide, and extending for about threequarters of the whole length of the vessel, have been fitted andmade a very appreciable difference as regards steadiness, the steamer 1 rolling but very slightly indeed iu a heavy seaway, and the ' result has far exceeded the expectations of Captain Hood. The ventilators throughout the steamer have all been raised, giving increased ventilation and draught, and thus adding to the comfort . of the passengers. The engines were taken • to pieces and completely overhauled, and Tariouß alterations _ and improvements made, so : as to - give increased speed. • The funnel haa. been lengthened about 13 feet, to give a better draught-, and It is ! expected . that when the new manganese bronze propeller is fitted the speed attained

will be » good 13 knots. All the boata were overhauled tod refitted, »nd verything about die steamer «u put through ft thorough inspection by Lloyds' surveyors, with the result that the has been repassed Al. The passenger accommodation, both saloon and i tee rage has been "all renovated, repainted and decorated, and has ft very comfortable appearance. The over* haul has cost nearly £3000, but ii money well expended, as the result is that the Anglian is now as good as any of the other boats in the intercolonial trade.
