MR. CROWTHER AND THE PRICE OF MILK.
TO THK EDITOR. Sir,—ln yours of Monday last; is a letter from Mr. Crowther, M.H.R., in which, by way of illustration, he says that creamery proprietors in the neighbourhood of Pukekohe are offering 2d a gallon for the coming season's milk. Your correspondent is in error. The only prices which have been named in connection with the district referred to are about equal to an average of 2|i' for the spring and summer months, the winter not being arranged for. Upon this price the skim milk, worth at least another farthing, is to be returned to the supplier free of cost. Thus the price, instead of being 2d, is 3d. Even this may not strike Mr. Crowther as being an extravagant amount for a milk-producer to receive, but he will see that the omission of the additional 50 percent, upon the sum he mentions makes an important difference. Mr. Crowther appears to have been careless in his reading upon this subject. Will he please make a note of this information, so that in the event of his caring to again use the same illustration he may not do us the injustice—unintentional, without doubt—which I how complain of.—l am, etc., Wesley Sprago, Manager New Zealand Dairy Association.
