The.Union Co.'s steamer Diogadee, Captain ' John Gibb, arrived from. Wellington and the East Coast at seven ' o'clock last evening. Mr. P. Wheeler, the purser, re' ports that the steamer left Wellington at midnight on the 9th Instant, and arrived at Napier at 11 p.m. on the 10th left again at 7 p.m. on the 11th, and arrived at Oisborne at 7 a,in. on the 12th ; left again at midnight, and called at Tokomaru on the IStii, and landed Bay passengers: called at Hicks' Bay aud Orati Point on the 14th, leaving the. Utter point at 3 p.m. the same date, arriving as above. Experienced moderate weather till arrival at Gisborne, thence strong north easterly winds accompanied with heavy rains and seas till half way across the Bay of Plenty, when it gradually moderated. The Dlugadee leaves for the East Coast and Wellington at noon to day. The Northern Company's steamer Clans* man arrived from Mangouui, Whangaroa, and .Russell yesterday morning with passengers and general cargo. She left for Whariirarei last night. Yesterday morning the Northern ComBany's steamer Argyle arrived from Mercury ay and Kuaotunu. Leaving this port on Monday evening the steamer met the easterlygale arid ran to Tryphena for shelter, where she remained until Thursday morning, aud then went on to Mercury Bay and Kuaotunu. Shortly after arrival the Argyle left tor the Great Barrier. The Northern Company's steamer' Chelmsford arrived from Whakatane and Tauranga. During the strong gale, which was from east-north-east, the steamer anchored under the Slipper, with both anohors down; getting tlnderweigh again early on Thursday morning, but the sea was so heavy that it took her 25 hours to make the harbour.' The Chelmsford left for Tauranga and Whakatane again yesterday afternoon. Shortly after five o'clock last evening the Union Company's steamer Te Kapo left for the Bluff, and loads produce back, via' Oamaru and Timaru. The steamer Richmond left for Rarotonga and Tahiti last night with a large miscellaneous cargo. To-day the steamer Stella goes into the Auckland Dock for cleaning and painting, Yesterday the barquentine George O. Perkins arrived atLyttelton from Newcastle. The scow Moana sailed for Whangaroa yesterday afternoon. This afternoon the steamer Ngunguru leaves for Whangarei. ' The Union Company's steamer Takajtana, from the Sooth and Now Plymouth, is. expected to arrive at Onehunga at 10 o'clook this morning. . Yesterday a crew was shipped for the barque Commorzienrath Rodberttis. The vessel will sail for Launceston on Wednesday next.

On her next trip homeward the Shaw, Savill t and Albion Company's steamer Tainai will call at Monte Video instead of Rio de Janeiro. Yesterday the American barquentine R. A. C. THE ALAMEDA'. The mail stean.er Alameda, Captain K. Van Oterendorp, arrived from Sydney shortly before eight o'clock last night. Mr. J. B. Sutton, the purser, who it will be learned with regret is in very poor health, reports ;— The Alameda lett Sydney at 5.15 p.m. on Monday last; sighted the Three Kings at 1.45 p.m.; rounded the North Cape at 4.45 a.m.; passed Cape Brett at 11.45 a.m., and arrived as above. Experienced light variable winds with very high easterly swell until making the New Zealand coast, followed by easterly winds and high swell to arrival. The Alameda leaves for Apia, Honolulu, and San Francisco at two o'clock this afternoon.

THE FIONA-HEAVY GALE. Yesterday morning the Colonial Sugar Refining Company's steamer Fiona, Captain R. H. Smith, arrived from Brisbane with a cargo of raw sngar and char for the company's works at Chelsea. The steamer met with the heavy easterly gale which prevailed along the coast from Monday to Thursday, bat came through without suffering any damage. The sea' met with was exceptionally heavy, and was the worst ever experienced by Captain Smith during the time that he has been visiting New Zealand. Leaving Brisbane at 4 a.m. on the 7th tost., strongeast-south-east winds were experienced until abreast of Norfolk Island, when a heavy easterly gale set in and continued during the 11th, 12th, and 13th, being accompanied with rain, thick weather, and heavy seas. PasSed the North Cape at 5 p.m. on the 14th, and arrived in harbour at 10 a,m. yesterday. The Fiona leaves for Westport this afternoon to load coal for Fiji.
