"Grain, seeds, horsefeed: A steady demand has existed, and supplies have been insufficient for requirements. We quote; Maize on wharf, 3s per bushel; ex store, % 3d; oats, feed, 2s 4d to 2s sd: seed oats, 2s 4d to 2s 6d; dun. & fid to 2a 8d ; bran, £4 ton; oaten chaff, £3 iOs to £4; grass seed unaltered in value, little doing. Horses: There was no unusual supply, a demand existed, and an average number changed owners without any remarkable difference in price. The entries for disposal by auction at Durham Yards were as numerous as on the previous weeks, and most of them were disposed of. We quote: Heavy draught, from £12 to £20: one heavy draught realised £33 10s; medium draught, £1015s to £1410s; light harness, from £4 to £10 10s; hacks, £310s to £7155. Wool, hides, skins, tallow, bones: A brisk demand has existed particularly for extra heavy ox hides, which sold at from foi to7Jd lb; stout ox, 4d to sd; cow and steer, from 2|d to 3fd; calf skins, 2W to 3id; tallow. 14a to 16s 6a cwt ;> bones, £215s to £3; sheepskins, Is 2d to 4s; pelts, 5d to Is Id; wool, fleece, 6d to 6|d; pieces, 4d to 4|d. Cattie: A good many were again brought forward, and found purchasers at about the same values as last week. A good muster on Tuesday at Newmarket, and there was steady competition for butchers stock througout the sale. For light weight, well fattea oxen, 20s per lOOlbs were realised; heavy weights, 18s to 19s; cow, 17u to 18s. Steers ranged from £5 to £1110s. Fat cows, £3 15s to £7. There was a good many yarded at Pukekohe on Wednesday, and prices were up to Newmarket rates. Springers sold from £3 5s to £7 7s 0d; dry cows, £1103 to £3. Stores at the previous week's values. Sheljp were penned at Newmarket on Tuesday in average numbers, and were • steadily competed for; wethers at from 9s 9d to 15s 6d, ewes 6s 6d to 10s 9d, lambs 5s 6d to 7s 9d. Pigs yarded in moderate numbers; weaners sold at from 5s to lis, small porkers 14s t« 25a.

The poor attendance and high reserves prevented much business being done. At Palmerston yesterday both sheep and cattle mustered up well. We had a large attendance and spirited bidding for both classes of stock, resulting in an almost total cleaiance of the yards under the hammer at prices in favour of vendors. Wethers more than maintained recent rates, whilst good woolled ewes and strong lambs showed a strong upward tendency. Young cattle and beefy cows sold freely, forward-bullocks being perhaps at lower value than other classes of cattle. NORTHERN CATTLE SALES. Messes. Hunter and Wilson's Report, —At Hikdrangi on Tuesday, May 5, over the advertised number of cattle came to hand. Well-bred stores and beef were wanted, but bidding was dull for most lines entered. At Whangarei on Thursday, May 7, 230 well bred cattle were penned, and very few lots failed to find purchasers at auction. A lias of 75 steers, 2 to 4-years-olds, in low condition, made from £2 10s to £4 6s, mostly selling at from £3 to £3 10s. We quote: Beef, 30 sold at 18s 6d to £1 1001b; forward springers, £4 10s to £5 18s; lata calvers, £215s to £4 as; 4 year steers, £4 6s; 2to 3-year steers, £210s to £3 12s; 18-month steers, £2 2s 6d; thin store cows, £116s to £2 6s; strong calves, 18s 6d to 26s each.
