A DISASTROUS VOYAGE.
Perth, May 13-
The steamer Asphodel had a disastrous voyage from the Eastern colonies. She encountered the full force of a fierce gale, during which she lost 95 bullocks, 900 sheep, 40 horses, 20 pigs, and the balance were landed in a pitiable condition.

NEW SOOTH WALES PARLIAMENT.
Sydney, May 13.
In the Legislative Assembly, on the motion that the Address -in • Reply be adopted, Mr. Varney Parkes moved to appoint a Select Committee to inquire into the administration of the Public Work* Committee. He attacked the Government both on general and special lines, but the Premier gave an assurance that the matters complained of would meet with complete investigation, and took the sting oat of the accusation. The debate was adjourned.
INTERCOLONIAL ROWING.
Sydney, May 13.
McCormick, the New Zealand sculler, is making satisfactory progress under Neilson. The New Zealand four continue to 'do good work, Although no. one is sanguine of their victory, it ' is expected McCormick will make a good race.
The New South Wales Rowing Association have decided to allow their delegates at the Australasian Rowing Conference a free hand in all matters, except on the question of amateur definition, to govern future intercolonial contests. Their delsgates will urge that the definition to be adopted shall be the definition in force in New South Wales; bub the delegates, however, will be ab liberty to conced« a provision excluding manual labou» amateurs. They will not give way on the exclusion of men employed in or abons boats, which caused the disqualification of the Queen's Drive crew, New Zealand. The New South Wales Association also declined to comply with the requesb of the New Zealand Rowing Association that the distance for intercolonial fours be increased from two and a-quarter to three miles. Speaking to the Press Association representative, a leading member of the New South Wale* Rowing Association emphatically stated that that body would not allow, under any circumstances, fishermen to row in intercolonial contests.
