The Government hoped that the two societies (Auckland and Whangaroa) might co-operate in extending the useful work with the same good results as had attended the division of districts in other parts of the colony. A good deal of discussion ensued. It was resolved. that the secretary write to the Colonial Secretary to the effect that the division of the Auckland district into a number of societies would work injuriously for the cause of acclimatisation, inasmuch as the working of such establishment as fish hatcheries involved large expense, which any small society could not | bear. In addition it would be hard upon i sportsmen who would have < to take out a license for each smaller district, ahe Society were of opinion that some proportion of the I license fees collected by the new district j should be granted to the parent Society as a contribution towards the expense of maintaining its hatcheries. ' CORRESFONDENCE.-Letter from Inspector ' Hicksou re a' conviction obtained for a breach of the Act, by Constable D&Vfiy, at Northern Wairoa. It was agreed to refer the matter to the new district in which the offence was committed. Constable Davey wrote that numbers of persons had been shooting without having taken out a license.
