FIRE IN WELLESLEY-STREET.
Shortly before two o'clock this morning a fire was discovered in a ten-roomed houeo in Wellesley-etreeb VVost, occupied by Mrs. Quinn and family. The fire broke out in ono of the lower rooms of the building which was a two-storeyed one, and the inmates had just time to get out safely, when the building was 4 mass of flumes. Very little of the furniture was saved, and what was got out suffered a great) deal from the rough handling which it received. The building was only sold last week to the Helping. Hand Mission, and was to be used as ft Rescue Home. • Ik originally ; belonged to Mrs. L. D. Halstead. The | building may be said to be completely I destroyed. It is believed to be insured,! but in which office could not be ascertained. I Mrs. Quinn's furniture was insured for £130 I in the Commercial Union office. The adjoin •1 iiig building, belonging to Miss ;J. Wilson, | and occupied by Mrs. McKsnzie. waaooneii 1 derably damaged, Mrs.McKonzie afurriiture, whiqh suffered a great deal of daroago by water and handling, is inaured inthelraperial office for £100, and the building, is also believed to be insured. The Fire Brigade, under Superintendent Hughes, and the Salvage Corps, under' Captain Field, wore 8 on 011 the scone, and rendered every assistance in subduing the fire and saving property. A large detachment of the police under Sergeants McMahon, Kelly, and Black were also present, aid Constable Finnerfy, in whose district the fire occurred, gave jd very assistance.
