BRUNNERTON RELIEF FUND.
A meeting of the local committee of the Bruunerton Relief Fund was held on Saturday forenoon, to receive correspondence re the conference called by the Premier to bo held in Wellington to consider the disposal of tho funds collected. There were present; Mr. J. J. Holland (Mayor of Auckland), Mr. W. Crowther, M.H.R.. Mr. W. Swanson, M.L.C., and Mr. W. J. Crowther, secretary. After the minutes had been confirmed, the secretary read tolegrams received from Duncdin aud Wellington, the Chairman explaining that these were replies received to telegrams whioh had been forwarded on Thursday. " Dunedin, May 7th. The Mayor, Auckland : Have wired Premier that relying on resolutions of ours, agreed to by mayors in the various centres, we cannot see use of adopting the suggestion in his circular. Prefer leaving decision in hands of Municipal Conference, who will represent contributors iu all localities ; besides, expeuse of sending special delegates would mean serious outlay of the funds. Will let you know bis reply. Have wired Greymoutli tho same.— S. Graham, Secretary Bruunerton Colliery Accident Relief Fund, Dunedin." " Wellington, May 7th- W. J. Crowther, Hon. Secretary Brunncrtoii Committee, Auckland : Your first and only telegram to me made no reference to Municipal Conference. Wo have not discussed that proposition. We shall attend conference on tho 14th as proposed by the Premier. Christchurch is sending the Mayor and Mr. Stead, lion, treasurer.— George Fisher, Mayor of Wellington.'"
Mr. Crowther said it appeared to him that this meeting was called too soon, and thoy could only endorse the action they had already taken, as there was a further telegram pending from Dunediu, containing the Premier's reply to their telegram. It would be better that they should adjourn the tneetiug until -i later date, until in fact this telegram oame from Dunedin in reply to the telegram to tho Premier. This was agreed to, and it was agreod that the meeting of the committee should be convened by circular immediately on receipt of this telegram. The Mayor of Auckland wishes to acknowledge on behalf of the Brunner Relief Fund receipt of the following subscriptions : —J. M. Laxon £1 Is, J. H. M. Carpenter £1, Charles Spooner ss, E.P. (per W. Crowther) 10s Gd, E. Cox and Son 10s. Banked to date £1393 10s.
