AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.

STRATFORD AND HAWERA.

The' Egmont,' Farmers'! Union (Limited), Hawera, report on April 30:—There was a fair muster of cattle on Friday, the 24th inst., but bidding was rather flat for most lines, though we managed to quit a fair number at about previous rates. We quote: 2to 2J-year steers, £3 to £3 6s; 2 to 2$ year heifers, £2 2s 6:1 to £2193; springers, £3 5s to £3 17s 6d; yearlings, £1 Co £14s; weaners, 10s to 14s 6d. Our monthly horse fair was held on Saturday, the 25th, when only a moderate number of horses came forward, some of them being of good quality, however. Good draughts were in demand, but other sorts were slow of sale, and in most cases did not reach the reserves placed upon them. . We quote: Draught horses, £17 10s to £20; spring trap horses, £6 5s to £9; hacks, £3 103 to £7 5s 6d; weeds, l?s 6d to £2 12s 6d. We held our usual sale in the Glover Road Yards, Hawera, on the 29th inst. Ihe entry of cattle was quite up to our expectations, and included a number of lines ot beef. These were well

competed for, and all but one line was sold at the hammer. Bidding for store stock was slow, several lines returning home unsold. Steer beef averaged about 15s, cow and heifer beef, 12s to 13s per 1001b. Sheep: None of the lines advertised came forward for sale, thus causing disappointment to more than one. We quote: Fat bullocks (heavyweights), £5 18s to £610s; fat bullocks (light weights), £5 to £6 3s ; forward bullocks, £4 to £4 8s; 2to 2J-year steers, £3 Is to £3 13s; fat cows and heifers. £312s to £3 153; dairy cows and heifers, £2 lis to £3 ss; yearlings, £1 2s to £1 4s ; weaners, 15s to 18s.

WHAKATANE AND TAURAISGA. Messes. Elliot and Vercoe's report for April. — At the Whakatane sale on the 11th of April, there was a fair muster. Prices ruled as under : Yearlings, £1 to £1 3s; steers, 2i years, £2 10s: heifers, 2$ years, £2 15s to £3; forward wethers, 8s 6d. Afew active draught horses consigned from Tauranga fetched £15 to £16. The sale at the Junction Saleyards on the 17th April was well attended. The yards were well rilled with cattle, and over 1200 sheep were penned. Bidding throughout was well sustained, there being keen competition for the Waimana Estate cattle, which were a choice even lot, and were all at from £4 to £7. Some averages were: £5 10h, £5 ss, £5 2s 6d, £4 12s fid, £4 7s 6d, £4 ss, and £4. Three-year-old steers, in poor condition. £31Q3; heifers, in good condition, £310s. Sheep: Wethers, 4 and 6-tooth, 7s 3d and 7s 4d; ewes, fresh full-mouth, 3s 3d to 4s, all sold. A few horses were also sold at fair prices, MANAIA. Messrs.Budge »nd Good's Fortnightly Report.—Although a fair amount of business has been done privately lately, stock are very hard to quit, vendors not liking the present market price. There is still a demand for grown bullocks At reduced values, and fat cows have advanced 5s a head. Store cows and all are very dull of sale, and there is little probability of any immediate rise. Sheep : There is now a better demand for all classes, hut still at low money. There is a ready sale for good lambs. At our Kaponga sale of 18tli April there was a good muster of cattle. We quote: 2-year-old steers, good quality, £3 1* 6d ; 18-month steers, £2 os 6d; yearlings, £1 lis 6d; mixed, £1 8? 6d; weaners. 16s to 18»; calves, 4s; cows and calves, £2 7s to £2165; fat cows, £3 7s to £3 16s; store cowe, £2. At Manaia on the 21st April the yards were erowded with stock. We quote: 3-year-old steers, £4155; 2J-year-old steers. £3 10s; 18-month to 2-year-old steers, £2 7s 6d; 15 to 18-month steers, £2 6s 6d; yearlings, £1 10s to £1 12s M ; mixed yearlings, £1 7s 6d; weaners, 16s to 18s; calves, 10s to 14s; store cows, £2 to £2 ss; forward condition, £2 10s to £2 14s 6d; 18month to 2-year-old heifers, £1153; yearling heifers, £1 os; fat cows, £3 7s 6d to £3 163; exceptionally heavy weights, £4 ss. Sheep: Fat ewes, 5s to 7s lid ; old ewes, 3s 6d to 4s; 2-tooth (mixed sexes), 7s 7d. At Otakeho on the 24th April we quote: Store cows, £2 2s; good-conditioned cows, with few calves at foot, £2 8s 6d: 18-month heifers, £1 9s 6d; 12 to 15 month steers, £1 17s 6d to £2 Is 6d; fat cows, £3 8s 6d to £3 18s. Sheep: 2-tooth wethers, not good quality, 5s 6d; 2-tooth ewes, not good quality, 5s fid; fat sheep, heavy weights, 8s 3d,

PALME RSTON NORTH. Messrs. Abraham and Williams report on May I:—At Pahiatuu on the 28th the rough weather prevented a good deal of the stock advertised from coming forward. We bad good entries of sheep, however, very few cattle coming to hand. Sheep sold freely, wethers and some forward ewes in lamb

being most in demand. We cleared the lot under the hammer with the exception of two pens of young ewes. The few cattle entered sold freely at recent market rates. At

Palmerston to-day we had moderate entries. Sheep 'generally maintained last week's ira-1 provemcnt in prices, and we cleared the line with the exception of one pen of wethers.
