PAEROA NOTES.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN COURESPONPENT.] Paeroa, Friday. A complaint has been made in Paeroa that a large number of people at Karangahake, Waitekauri, and Waihi had not received census papers, thus depriving the Ohinemuri district of proper representation. The Ohinemuri County Council are now going to ascertain the names of those not receiving the necessary papers.
A long and desultory discussion took place at the Ohinemuri County Council meeting last eveniug on the water supply question. It was resolved (1) That the necessary steps be taken in accordance with the advice of Mr. Miller, solicitor, to secure the right of the water of Tareriki Creek for domestic purposes: (2) That Mr. Miller be instructed to create a special rating district for Paeroa.
Several other matters were discussed by the Council, including a letter from Mr. S. C. Macky, of Auckland, asking the Council to assist in making a pack track to the St. Patrick, Golden Fleece, and Goldon Crown mines at Karangahake. It was resolved that the companies be met half way as regards 'he cost of doing the necessary work. Regarding kauri timber, a resolution was carried to the effect that the Government be asked for the Council's fair share of the money received from Mr. Darrow for kauri timber, whilo it was also agreed that the Government be requested to reserve the Wai» lawheta bush for mining purposes. Ten cases of typhoid fever were reported to the Ohinemuri Council last night by Dr. Forbes.
The salary of Mr. McArthur, engineer to County Council, has been raised to £300.
