4*— , ■ - DEBTOR'S STATEMENT. Yesterday William Parker, of Kcmokorifcf, made a sworn statement before the Official Assignee in bankruptcy, in which he states that to had been engaged in bush-falling and other contracts in the Kaipara for several years, but has been gmndigging fcr the past twelvemonths. For the last nine years hi had not been able to earn more than a bare'. living for himself, wife, and five children. About two and a-balf years ago he entered into a contract with Mr. Charles Gardner, »1 Kaipara, to cart sleepers from native land,' but the natives stopped him working, claiming money for the right to cut timber. He claimed £341 8s from Mr.. Gardner for workdone, including £20 damages, aud admitting his centra-account of £258 8s 10d,s the balance due was £82 19s 2d. -This amount was repudiated by Mr. Gardner, and the native land not having been put through the Court, the bankrupt could not sustain his claims, and be had no means to take legal action. His. debts amounted to £41 13s 3d, and beyond the debt due by Mr. Gardner ha had no assets."
