London, May 6. In the House of Commons Mr. Hanbury, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, said tenders for the Indian and Australian mail services would be invited at a minimum speed of 13i knots. No European port of call was mentioned, but Mr, Hanbury explained that if Marseilles showed better results than Brindisi, the Fostmaster-General would be free to choose that route.
Tenders for a fast Canadian-English mail service, to begin in May, 1898, will be received up to June 10.
