OHINEMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.

[by telegraph.— COI

Paeroa, Thursday, The ordinary monthly meeting of the County Council was held this evening. Several int. portant contracts for roads were let, one being the formation of the Komata Creek Road, from the end of section one, now being constructed to the battery site of the Komata Reefs G.M. Co v The tenders received were as follow :—Keyban and party, £879 3s; Olson, £710; McNamara, £879 10s; Bun and Robinson. £677 10s; Roxborough and Sheehan, £570; Coulson, £1484. The tender of Roxborough aud Sheehan was accepted. This road, it may be mentioned, is constructed from the Thames Road, and when completed will be 3 miles 23 chains in length, the cost of construction being defrayed partly by the Komata Reefs Gold Mining Company, who pay £175, the remainder being nude up by the Council and the Government, the latter subsidising the work of the Council to the extent of £ for £ The work is a most important one, as the road will undoubtedly open up a portion of hitherto practically unknown country. It will be means of access to what promises to be as rich a portion as any part of the goldfield. It will also greatly relieve the PaeroaWaitekauri road, and will cheapen the cost of transit to the Komata and Northern Waitekauri system of mines. Another important contract let was the deviation of Owharoa-Waihi road, from the bottom of Thorpe's Hill, the successful contractors being Roxborough ami Sheehan, at £380. This is for the first section of a road which will lead almost into Waihi, the traveller by this new route being able to avoid the several hills over which the present road passes. The Council also gave permission to P. Lanigau, on behalf of a syndicate, to construct a light tramway from Paeroa to Puke, Until this branch is completed Mr. Lanigan Is to be allowed to run a temporary line to the junction.
