THAMES COUNTY COUNCIL.
[BT TELHfIRAPn.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. J Thames, Wednesday. At tho County Council meeting this evening several applications wero receivod, asking for grants of money towards repairing the tracks in the out-districts, for the purpose of facilitating the prospecting for gold that at the present time is being extensively carriod on. Owing, however, to the low state of the County's finanoes, several of the applications were refused, bub the application of Mr. Chas. Short, on behalf of the Broken Hill Syndicate, who asked that the bridle track leading from the County Main Road up tho Hihi Creek across the rungo to Tairua be re-opened, was granted ; also the application of Mr. Jas. Uorbett to repair the track leading from Hikutaia to Whangamata, especially that portion of the road near what is known as the " Stairs."
