At the Police Court to-day James Thomas, the lad who was a few days ago convicted of larceny and sentenced to two months' imprisonment) in Mount Eden Gaol, was charged with breaking and entering the dwellinghoußQ of Mr. J. E, Hansen, at Parawai, on the 26th August last, and stealing therefrom a gun valued at £2. After hearing the evidence the accused was committed to take his trial at) the next criminal session of the Auckland Supreme Court. Ifltf TELUQBAPH. —TRUSS ASSOCIATION.J Wellington, Wednesday. The annual report of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society records another year's steady progress. The increase in red deer has be«n very remarkable in the Wairarapa district. Native 'pigeons are rapidly growing scarce, and the Council of the Society asks colonists to assist in preventing their total extinction by abstaining from shooting them this season. _ Replying to the complaint of the Eight Hours Committee of long hours worked by gaol warders, tho Inspector of Prisons says they are paid higher wages in comequenoe. Mr. Findlay, a member of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, has arrived here, I He will leave for Auckland in a few days.
