ELECTRIC TRAMWAYS FOR WELLINGTON.
(by TELEGRAPH.— press association.]
Wellington, Tuesday. Johnston and Co., the well known merchants, have applied to the City Council on behalf of a syndicate for permission to substitute electricity as motive power for the city tramways, and, in the event of the application being grauted, they ask for an extended lease. Arrangements have been made with the present lessee for acquisition of the plant and goodwill, and part of the scheme is to extend the system to Island Bay and Karori. The City Council set up a committee to consider the whole matter.
