Uriflilhs, Is 3d per chain ; for clearing and burning off at cemetery, Urr and Ualku, Ills per acre. The lease of the Towd Board paddock, near the Utuluua Creek, to the pioprietora of the Grand Hotel was the subject of a long discussion. It having become known that the management of the hotel designed to use the paddock as a sort of sewage farm. Mr. J. Head, the lessee of an adjoining section, xpreased Ilia intention of applying for un ujuuetiou prohibiting it being put to any such purpose. The manager ot the hotel wrote ertplaluiug what he intended to do with the ground, so tint the Board might not be in ignorance thereof should any complications arise. He stated thai every care would be taken in the disposal of the sewage matter; but, us the paddock wit3l2 acres in extent, and several chains distant from Mr. Heed's house, he cou.d not see that there was the slightest possibility of a nuisance urisiug. The question of the disposal of *ewagi', more especially in regard te the laruer houses, was becoming a serious one, aud he thought the project of establishing a sewage farm should not he tnwurted. i'lie Board sould not see how anyone could complain ot a nuisance till it actually existed, and besides the lesseo would have to confirm to the Board ol Health by-laws. Jf they did not complete their contract with the lessee they could be sued for damages. It was also considered that the proprietors of the hotel would in their own interests see that the scheme did not lead to insanitary conditions. Dr. Hinders considered that it was merely a sentimental objection on the part of Mr. Reed, and that he would eventually admit that there was no nuisance. Tho chairman could not see why the rural sections should be kept locked up owing to the objection of one person. It was decided that no action should be taken. It was decided to again communicate with the directors of the Bank of New Zealand, Hiking them to reconsider their decision in regard to the establishment of . a branch buuk. *

It was resolved that the Railway Depart- j ment be written to asking that one express train per week, be run lor the benefit of invalids, who under the prcseut system arrived here late at night after a twelve hours' ride. 1 hear from Tokaanu that tourists who have made the ascent of Ngauruhoe and Tongiiriru lately have found many changes on reaching the summits. On the latter one of the lakes has dried up, and the crater of Ngauruhoe has altered considerably, through masses of stone slipping into the abyss. There are upwards of 1000 natives at present at Tokaanu, but many are arranging for an early departure.
