[rnOM OUR OWN' COIUIIiS'.'ON'DKNT.J Te Ahoha, Saturday. TIIE Piako Couuty Council met in the Council Chambers, Morrinsville, yesterday, when there were present; Messrs. Chepmell (chairman), Gavin, Hurries, Hunt, and Harrison. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and correspoudence, outward and inward, dealt with. Mr. A. Bremnor, clerk of the Waitoa Road Board, wrote requesting the Council to out some ten-tree on tho Wairougonui Road, mid also called the Council's attention to damage which had been done to a road and ilitch hy someone in the Council , !; employ. The ditch had been filled up in order to allow some carting to be done, and as there was no outlet for the water, great damage was done to the road through the overflow. The Council decided to clear out the ditch and remove all obstacles.

Golupigi.ds Revknuk.—The Receiver of Goldfields Revenue notified the Council that the sum of 10* of qoldlields revenue had been received from their district from Ist to 24th March. General surprise was expressed at the smallness of the sum, especially in view of the fact that a considerable .'.mount of revenue had been received of late, from the local mining properties. Mr. Garin thought there must be some mistake in the allocation of receipts between Tauranga and L'tako Counties, and it was decided to write to the Department on die matter, asking for an explanation.

Foremen's Reports.— Foreman Wattam reported that Macgnire's contract had, in accordance with decision of last meeting, been taken out of the contractor's hands, and finished by the Council at the contractor's expense. There being a dispute as to measurement of gravel in this job, Wattam recommended that only 493 yards be paid for, and as the contractor had already exceeded his time, the foreman suggested tho imposition of the usual fine. He also recommended that some of the gravel being thrown out of the Waioronjjomai main drain should he utilised in repairing some of the streets in that township, which had become very sloppy. The Council decided to give effect to the various recommendations in Wattam'a report. Foreman Mahood wrote stating that as lie had mistaken the date of the Council's meeting he had no report ready. Gordon- Wαiiaroa Road Contract.—Mr. Armstroiig,C.E.,wrote<leclininKtheoffermade atlast meeting of the Council for supervision of this contract. The Council having communicated with Mr. W. 11. Johnson, of Waihi, decided to accept that sentlemnu's terms.

Tβ AnoiiA Ikino.K Road.—The Council having approached the Hon. A. J, Cadman on this matter, obtained from him authority to (jet lOOtt yards of earth from the railway reserve, free of charge. The railway department, through some misunderstanding, made aomc modifications in the original arrangement, which, if agreed to, would nullify any advantage to be gained from au acceptance of Mr. Cadman's offer. In view of this, and the fact that the winter season was at hand, the Council decided not to proceed with this contract at present. The foreman was instructed to keep the existing road in good repair. Oorsk on . Railway Frontage.—The railway department wrote stating that instructions had been (,'iveu to have gorse complained of removed.

Ckkdit Uai.ance. -The credit balance at Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton, was reported as being £268 13s 10d.

Licensing Expenses.—A communication was received from tho Cambridge Borough Council, claiming £7 -10s 7d for cost of administering the Licensing Act. The expenses for the last term were:—Licensing clerk's salary, £10; committee's travelling expenses, £33 0* 4d. Total less refund of £7 9s, from Mr. ISuxton, £35 11s 4d. This waa met by a Invy on the various local bodies, as follows :— Hamilton Borough, £4 fls lid; Cambridee Borough, £0 17s Id ; Te Aroha Town Board, £92s Id; WaikatoCounty,£'24sl]d:Piako County, £7 10s 7d: Receiver of Revenue, Wellington, £5 6s 9(1. Total. £35 Hβ 4d. Waioronkomai Tramway. — The committee appointed at last meeting to deal with this matter reported that they had visited the tramway, inspected the plant, buildings, and tools, and found everything in siood order except the brakes frames. In view of the fact that the traffic had been very small, and that the lessee, Mr. Taylor, hail carried out all the specifications at a loss to himself, they recommended that his arrears of rent be remitted. As there was some uncertainty about future requirements the committee had no recommendation to make as to the best means of working the tramway, and as the term of lease had expired, they, on behalf of the Council, took over the property from the lessee. The committee's recommendation regarding remission of arrears of rent was agreed to, and Mr. Gavin, cm behalf of the hew Zealand Exploration Company, undertook to be responsible for the tramway until next mooting, when some permanent arraignment may be made. Him Tkack, Waiokongomai.—Mr. Gavin was authorised to engage a mail as occasion renuil'od to keep this truck in repair. TENDERS.—I'iie following tenders were received for cleaning road drain from Cribb's corner, at Waihou township, to Waihou river. 1). McCarthy, Is 3d per chain; J. Odium, Is L'i'd per chain: James Shine, Iβ 2(1 per chain; and W. Thomson (accepted), Is 'Jd per chain. Miscellaneous.—lt whs decided to provide a new box and piping for water trough near Cambridge, and also, to put down some fresh gravel on road opposite vVaihou Hotel. Messrs. Chepmell, Harrison, and Gavin were appointed a Fiuauco Committee, with instructions to prepare n, report for next meeting. The following accounts were passed for payment:—G. Mahood, £8; J.
