Salving operations at tho wreck of tlio barque Halcioue have been proceeding satisfactorily during the past few flays. The diver (Mr. Smith) has suceeedod so tar in recovering about £70 worth of fencing wire, paints, etc. Messrs. Walter Brown and Co., who are carrying on the work, expect to recover the greater part of the cargo. Captain Eckford, of the steamer Neptune, intends to build a new steamer for the Wellington coastal trade. THE RICHMOND. On Saturday night Messrs. Donald and Eden borough's steamer Richmond, Captain R. G. Hutton. arrived from Tahiti and Rarotonga with a large cargo of pearl shell, copra, and general island produce. The following is an account of the round trip The Richmond left Auckland on her usual trip to the South Sea Islands on February 19th, and experienced strong E. and N.E. winds with high sea until R.irotonga was reached on the 27th; discharged passsengers and cargo, and left for Tahiti the same day at 5 p.m.. where she arrived and hauled alongside the wharf at noon on the Ist instant. Having loaded a part cargo of fruit, produce, etc., she left for Rarotonga at 2 p.m. on the __4tli, arriving there at daylight on tho 7th, where she completed her loading for Auckland, and left at (> p.m. the same date, with S.E. winds and fine weather, which lasted until the 10th, when the wind went round to the westward, blowing a strong pale, with high seas, gradually moderating and hauling into the southward as the ship approached the New Zealand Coast. The Barrier was reached at 2 p.m. on Saturday, with fine N.E. wind and weather, the harbour being made at 830 p.m. This evening the Richmond will proceed to Whangarei for coal, returning on Wednesday morning, and leaves for Rarotonga ami Tahiti on Thursday.
