AUCKLAND. MESSES. HUNTER AND NOLAN'S WEEKIT REPORT.

Grain, seeds, (honefced ! The supply has been sufficient tor requirements. The demand has not been quite so keen for maize, but was maintained for other grain. We quote : Feed oats, 2s 5d to 2s 9d bushel; maize on wharf 2s lid to 3s ; ex store, 3s 4d bran, £410s ton; oaten chaff, £3 10s to £410 a ton. Horses : Slackness has characterised the. market, about an average muster were' brought forward, and found purchasers at about the previous week's values. At the -Durham Yards on Friday bidding was slow for theusual number of lots. Wenote: Heavy draught from £10 5s to £17; medium draught, £9 to £13 17s 6d ; hacks, £4 5s to £13 M* 3 - . „ , A*, Wool, hidos, skins, tallow, bones : Owing to the second series of wool Bales held on Wednesday, there was no sale of hides'and skins on Tuesday. Tho wool brought forward was not as good in qnality and get up as at the previous sale. There was no advance in value for any class, and for rougher wools there was a decline in Borne instances from id to id lb. Detailed particulars have been already published. Cattle : The market has lacked vitality, but there has been little or no noteworthy alteration in value.

The Newmarket yards were fairly well supplied on Tuesday. Steady bidding prevailed, but there was no advance in prices. We quote: Beef at from 17s to 19s 1001b. Some averages of fat steers were £7 3s, £7 Is lid, £7 Is 4d, £61756 d. £5155, £5 lls6d;cows, £5103 ! £4 17s 6d, £4 155, £4 12s fid, £4 10a, £3756 d. Sheep were in ample number at Newmarket, on Tuesday, and sold at values in favour of the purchaser. Store ewes from Is 9d to 4e 6d; fat ewes, 4s to 7s 3d ; store wethers, 4s 9d to 9s; fat wethers, 7s 6d to 9s. Pigs i Very few yarded.

At the Haymarket oaten sheaves have brought 2s 6d and 2s 9d cwt ; straw, lis to 25s load ; oats, 2s 2d to 2s 8d ; maize, 33 2d ; barley, 2s 7d bushel; maize on wharf, 3s bushel. On Friday horse stock yarded numerously were dull of sale. Prices for medium draft were from £7 to £14; a farm mare, £17. Consequent on the wool sale, no sale oi hides was held.

At the wool sale there was good competition. Wasty and inferior wools were in better demand; crossbred wools at similar values j heavy Lincoln wool lower in price, id to 2Jd lb, than at the December Bales. Prices for lougwools mostly ranged from Old to 7id; crossbred, 6M to 8d; half-bred, B|d; lambs, 6Jd to BJd lb; 824 bales catalogued, and with & few exceptions all sold. At Kemuera, on Thursday, dairy cattle were slightly better worth {store cattle dull of sale. Fat calves in short supply sold freely at an advance over lato markets. Fat cattle in full number were lower in value. Prices for steers were from 17s to 19.6; cows, 12t to 153 the 1001b. Fat sheep, in usual number, were also lower in value about Is each; wethers brought from 7s 6d to 10s; ewes, 5s to 6s 9d; store wethers, Gs 6d and Cs 9d: ewes. 3s 3d to 5s each; lambs, in usual supply, were also at lower values, prices ranged from 2s 9d to 9s each. Pigs, in limited supply, kept their late values; weaners were at 5a and 6s; porkers, 15s to £112s each. PAHIATUA, Me. D. Crewe reportsOn the 14th inst. I held my usual fortnightly stock sale at Pahiatua. Several lines of stock came forward in excess of those advertised, and the yards were filled to their full carrying capacity. The attendance was large, but the bidding throughout was somewhat slack. The following prices were realised: Dairy cows, good quality, £4 to £5s 2s 6d, others. £317s to £4; store cows, good, £2 17s to £3 7s 6d; 2-year-old steers, £212 a 6d; 2J-year-old steers, £3 3s to £3 ss; yearlings, £1 12s to £1 17s; weaners, £1; calves, 10s; young pigs, 63 to 8s 6d; young ewes, 5s 9d to 7s 4d ; old owes, 4s 3d. On Saturday I held my ordinary horse sale at Pahiatua. There was a very large entry of horses of all classes, also a large attendance of the public. Bidding throughout waa > very slack, only a limited amount of business being done at prices in favour of the purchasers. The following prices were realised: Bacon, 3Jd to 4J.d lb; hams, 4|d to 6d lb: new potatoes, 7b 6d and 8s sack. During the week I have placed two lines of 2-tooth ewes at 5s lid and 6s, good sorts. PALMERSTON NORTH.

Messrs. Abraham and Williams re» port on January 17Our sales for the week ending were held at Pohangina and Palmerston. At the former, on Tuesday, a fair entry of sheep came forward; cattle iu few numbers. Sheep were slow under the hammer, but all sold afterwards. Sheep: Fat ewes, 5s 5d to 6s; breeding ewes, good mouths, 6s: two-tooth wethers, 6s 6d; two-tooths, mixed sexes, 6s 4d; aged ewes, 4s 3d; lambs in wool, 4s 7d. At Palmerston, yesterday, sheep were numerous, the quality varied greatly, and those of an indifferent sort were without inquiry; good quality in demand, and firm at quotations. Cuttle plentiful, declined in value all round, some classes of steers from IDs to 15s per head on late rates; weaners and young cattle generally were difficult to place, in this class most business being done privately. Sheep: Two-tooth wethers, in good order, 7s 8d to 7a lOd; others, Cs to 6s Gd; fat wethers, 9s; twotooth ewes, 78 6d to 7s Bd. Cattle: Wenner steers, £2 2s Gd; yearling steers, 30s; mixed weaners, 17s 6d to 22s 6d; mixed cattle,-eighteen-months, 345; 2s-year heifers, £210s; 2i-year steers, £3; three-year steers, £3 12s 6a to £3 16s; cows and calves, £3 ss; fat bullocks, £517s 6d.

ELTHAM AND HAWERA. 1 Messrs. Nolan. -Conks, & Co. Report:— At Elthani, on 14th iust., there was a fair entry, but, owing no doubt to harvesting operations, bidding was slow throughout. The dairy cows sold on account of R. Ripley brought an average of £4. At Hawera, on 16th, the quantity of stock advertised came forward, but enquiry was slack, We quote : —At Eltham: Calves, 9s to lis ; weaners, 20s to 245; yearlings, 30s to 355 ; 18-months to 2-year steers, £2 to £2 8s ; empty cows, £2 9s to £2 145 ; forward cows, £3 to £3 3s; fat cows, £3 103"; 18-months heifers, 37s to 41a 6d ; springers, £3 12s Gd to £4. At Hawera: Yearlings, mixed, 329 to 345; 12 to 18 months steers, 40s to 435; 2-year steers, £2 lis (3d; 2 to 24-year steers, £3 to £3 0s Gd; store cows, £2 10 ato £2 18s; forward cows, £3 4s : fat cows (light weights), £3 Gs to £3 12s Gd; yearling heifers, 25s to 28s Gd; 12 to 18 months heifers, 37s Gd; 2 to 2i-year quiet heifers in calf, £2 10s; springing heifers, £3 to £3 10a. Sheep: 4- tooth, mixed, 7s 3d. hoggets (small), 5s lid ; culls, 3s; lambs in wool, ss.

MANAIA" The Egmont Farmers' Union (Limited), Hawera, report on Janurry 16 :— We held our fortnightly sale at Manaiaon January 16 Not quite the advertised number of stock came forward. The attendance was small, and bidding dull, though nearly every pen changed hands after the sale at reduced prices. We quote : 2to 2fc-year steers, £3 ti £3 4s; fat cows, £3 10s to £4; store cows, £2 4s to £212s 6d ; dairy cows, £3 to £3 10s.
