(Nx IKLKOHAf II, —PHKSS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, Monday. TRAINING NOTES. To-day tho Cup candidates were allowed to work on the outside of the racing truck. The Shrew traversed a mile and three-quarters with her stable companion, Torpiua, who was of little use to hor at the finish. Stepfoldt, who holds the pride of position in the betting, and Panoply, another Cup candidate, were associated in a gallop over the Cup distance, but the latter tailed off badly towards the finish. Stepfeldt pleased the touts, and is being well supported Aucklandors, Spindrift put in a serviceable gallop, and although not extended, shows that t he > has undergone a careful preparation, and on his Hastings runpiug should hold The Shrew safe. Dreamland was treated to halfpied work, but is not looking bright. Searchlight rattled off a mile in taking style, and was, pulling all the way as if relishing the go. Bessie McCarthy 1 and Skirmisher, 'both of whom are greatly fancied, were associated in a spin onoe round, traversed in 2m. 25., and in the brush home the mure held her own, One, or perhaps both, will be handy when .the whips are cracking on Wednesday. Brooklet had the best of a gallop with Pompom over ' a mile' and ft distance. Lady Zetland and' Saracen journeyed over the cup distance, 'but were only at top speed at the back'"of the course, and were eased up towards the 'finish. Both are looking gay, the mare being particularly yell. Slid has been strongly supported, but as Mr. Hobbs has still the pair in, backers should stand off until the day, as Saracen may be the pea when the colours are up.' Lorelei has been raised lfllbs on her original handicap for her >viiia at Palmernton North, and had she' been reserved for our Cup, there would have been 110 necessity to look further for the winner, if well. Yet she is well supported, and will beat more than beat her, the stable being very confident that the daughter of Laurel will run forward, notwithstanding her increased weight. Rangipuhi has' been under ft cloud too long to claim much' attention. Kent has bpetl putting in good work, and, if a surprise is to come off, he may effect it. ' The horses engaged in the minor events are doing well. ' 1 ' ACOKPTAN'CES KOU TUB COP.
