there was a sharp break for a few fays, from which, however, the market is now rapidly recovering. Berth rates by steam, while ruling high, are little easier to some of the ports! In sailing vessels there is no great change to report. First-claso bottoms continue scarce, and charterers are obliged to yield to owners' views more than they like. We have to report the following charters: Norwood, 1597 tons register, for Sydney; Gudrun, 142-1 tons register, for Melbourne; Centurion, 1704 tons register, for Sydney; Sunlight, 350 tons register, for Wellington. The above are now in berth, Further charters are: Tacora, 874 tons register, for Adelaide; Jano Burrill, 1835 tons register, for Melbourne; Les Adelphes, 1320 tons register, for Dunedin, Lyttelton. and Nelson C. G. Rice, 080 tons register, for Wellington and Auckland. The Sunlight is a very small vessel for the voyage, but was taken as the only one immediately available, and cost about 30s. She will be full this week, and the C. G. Rice will promptly follow her in the berth. Since our last only the Skjold (November 20, for Melbourne), and Sidney (November 28, for Adelaide) have been despatched. Berth rates show an advance to some of the ports, in addition to those mentioned in our last, Sydnoy and Melbourne. We quote: Melbourne, 14 cents; Sydney, 14 cents; Adelaide, 17 cents; Brisbane, 18 cents; Wellington, 20 cents; Nelson, 18 cents; Auckland, 17 cents; Dunedin, 18 cents; Lyttelton, 17 cents. A charier is expected shortly for Brisbane and Towuaville.
