Mr. W. J. Bray, a well-known resident; of Onehunga, is about to leave for the Upper Thames. A garden party was Riven yesterday at the Pah, Onehunga, by Mrs. E. D. O'Rorke, for which 300 invitations were issued. Mr. Robert Hare, one of the very earliest settlers of tho Wairarapa, died at Masterton last week. Deceased was 81 years of age. Miss M. Kelly, of Whakatane, lias been appointed to the Auckland Telephone Bureau, and will commence ber duties on January 2. Mr. Hutchinson, one of tho teaching staff of the Napier High School, lias been appointed to a position on the Wellington College staff. Mr. Gourley has been presented by tho St. Hilda Borough Council with a marble clock, after thirteen years' continuous service as Mayor. Dr. Talmage has accepted a call to become co-pastor with the Rev. Dr. Byron Sutherland, of the first Presbyterian Church in Washington. Miss Lina Thompson, who won a scholarship in tho Groytown school, has won tho Latin and French prizes, and won honorable mention in Scriptural subjects at the Girls' High School, Wellington. News has boon received that Mr. Fred Harvey, second bod of Mr. William Harvey, butcher, late of Tauranga, lias died in India. The young man was at) tho time of his demise managing a plantation. Mr. P.. A. Chisholm, manager of the Bank of New Zealand atTimaru, who is removing to Inrorcargill, has been given a farewell banquet. The banquos was well attended by representative commercial, professional, and agricultural gentlemen. A purse of sovereigns was presented to Mr. Chisholm. The marriage of Professor Egerton, of the Auckland University, to Miss Annie Fenton, daughter of Judge Fenton, of Crosland, Kaipara, took place on Wednesday last, at Bishopscourt.
