SEW ZEALAND EXPORTS.
We are indebted to the local manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company for a return which has been compiled by the officers of thab company, showing the total export from the colony in the 12 months from Ist July, 1894, to June 30, 189i5. This company have made a similar return in previous years, and th© information thus supplied affords a standard by which to watch the progress of the colony's productions in any direction, as well as the points in our export trade where a weakness or decline has been shown. During the twelve months preceding the 30th of June la*t, there were 6- sailing vessels of 63,639 tons, and 68 steamers of 306,921 tons engaged in our export trade, thus aggregating 130 vessels of all' clauses, of 370,560 tons. As will be seen in the following figures, there is a large increase in some of the branches of trade, while in others there is a substantial decrease, in the export of. wheat, etc., the decrease is very large indeed. In the butter trade, too, we notice there is a substantial decrease, while the majority of settlers 'no doubt regarded this as an increasing branch of oxport. Kauri gum also shows a substantial decrease, while the export of flax is, as might bo expected, owing to the low price ruling for this fibre, less than half what ib was the previous year. . The following are the figures for the whole colony for the period named Frozen meat, 2,139,677 carcases; wool, etc., 376,489 bales; flax, 6617 bales ; tallow and pelts, 40,935 casks ; kauri gum, 32,246 packages ; meats, 44,032 oases; wheat,etc.,43,6o2sackß;oats, 235,905 sacks grass seed, 22,043 sacks butter, 3484 tons ; cheese, 4254 tons ; sundries, 8318 tons. For the sake of affording an easy means of making a comparison, we give the figures for the previous year ;— Frozen meat, 1,702,407 carcases; wool, etc., 387,231 bales; flax, 14,930 bales; tallow and pelts, 33,771 casks; kauri gum, 34,415 packages; meats, 35,862 cases ; wheat, etc., 237,998 sacks ; oats, 192,654 sacks; grass seed, 19,951 sacks; butter, 3938 tons; cheese, 2728 tons ;sundries, 483 tons. Although the oxport of wool last year shows a decrease as compared with the previous year, of no less than 10,742 bales, yet the export of frozen meat increased from 102,144,4201bs to 128,380,644 lbs, and the item of sundries show a very large increase, being nearly eighteen times that of the previous year. These returns may be regarded as trustworthy and reliable, and give a very accurate idea of the position of our export trade.
