PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB.

Last Saturday was not the pleasantest for those who elected to follow the horn and the hounds, but nevertheless a good following were out, and the hounds were excitingly hunted by Young Selby, who was in charge, owing to a rather serious accident at the kennels, which happened to his father during the week, and whose cheery voice and wellknown figure were much missed in consequence. The hunting was ot a slow description, although two kills were effected, and there were numerous jumps negotiated, not all without accidents, as Mrs. W. R. Bloomfield had rather an ugly fall, owing to her horse blundering over a fence, and Mr. Taylor, of Maugere, also came to earth. Amongst those present I noticed Miss Dunnett (on Roger), Miss McLaughlin (on Crusader), Miss Roberts (on Brunt wood), Miss Thomas (on a brown). Miss Rookes (on a black), Misses Taylor, Sentley, and Mrs. Bilboiough. Amongst the gentlemen were the Master, Colonel Dawson (on Ike), Messrs. McLaughlin, Gorrie, Bullock-Webster, Tonks, Bloomfield, O'Rorke, Wynyard, Otway, Crowe, Nolan, Russell, and others too numerous to mention. The road contingent was also in evidence, there being quite a concourse of traps and buggies. The hunting was over Messrs. Peglar's and Paul's property, both excellent friends to the club, and to whose kindly permission to cross their grounds the members owe many a pleasant day. Too much cannot be said against those who, while enjoying the permission of those farmers to hunt over their lands, wilfully break through the fences out of mere wantonness, and the members should combine with the master m his efforts to put it down. I am happy to be able to say the members themselves are not to be blamed. It is invariably those who, whilst enjoying the sport, give neither time nor money to the club. Yoick.
