■ London, June 30. The Marquis of Ripon, replying to the farewell of the Agents-General, said he had endeavoured to serve the interests of the colonies, and had con-
stantly tried to draw closer the ties with the mother country. He considered the future of the Empire depended largely on the development of the colonies.
