SUDDENDEATHS AND EXCESSIVE TEA-DRINKING.
§ TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —pas pleased to see in to-day's HzRALDCepIy to my letter of the 20th inst., re *add?#eaths in New Zealand. By the qaotatidtom Dr. Newman, of Wellington, which gives, it is evident that th* climafcesfjnot the cause. " Celt" states in the firsfirt of his letter that the editor of th» L*S» in reply to a similar letter to mine Clears ago, stated that nothing of heart pase was known in England till aater » introduction of tea. No doubt tea-uxfing has a great effect on the heartltd constitution generally, and I am oSpinion, that that may to a great extente the cause ia New Zealand. Tn< colors are noted consumers of this beverage, ping it at every meal in large quantiiriejAt home a man who has laborious worlp do seems to prefer a glass of beer to dinrfand I think he is the better for it. Ia Aaslia, tea-drinking in large quantities is eveakore noticeable than in New Zealand. Shefrs, swagsmen, and in fact everyone, goeafor tea to every meal. Certainly a cap! tea is very refreshing, and I believe, in federation would not be hurtful. Dajjg the heat of Timer in an Aaralian bush I hare found mvself consnag pannikin after pannikin of scalding teajrying to alleviate my thirst I was reamed for the time, but the after effects of fdry tongue and palpitating heart was anting but pleasant. One time while in tbjHish I did not taste tea for a month. Ding the time I refreshed myself with hop bel etc. The abstinence from tea made a inked improvement in me, and I felt better til I had ever done. In my opinion if there v.v less tea-drinking and cigarette-smoking tie would not be so many die of heart dßase. — am, etc., A>~xiocs. jiay 27,1895. B .
