At the Pitt-street Wesleyan Literary Society on Thursday evening the Rev. S. F. Prior delivered a lecture entitled The Pain and Pathos of Human Life illustrated chiefly from the Simpler and Unknown Poets." There was a large and appreciative attendance, and the chair was occupied by the Rev. H. Bull. The lecturer ably and eloquently handled his subject and copiously illustrated the same with selections from the writings of several poets. During the evening Miss Reid rendered " Ye Banks and Braes of Bonnie Doon," Miss Wheeler, " Home They Brought Her Warrior Dead," Miss Tudehope, "Homo, Sweet Home," and Mr. Forbes, " Break, break, oh Sea." The Misses Reid also rendered the duet, What are the Wild Waves Saying." The audience frequently manifested their approval by repeated applause, and at the close a vote of thanks, moved by Mr. Shackelford and seconded by Mr. Preston, was carried unanimously. It is wonderful whit a youthful and attractive appearance is worn by middle-aged people who preserve the colour of their hair by using Mrs. 8. A. Allen's World's Hair Restorer. 1
