SPORTING.

COfALA'S VICTORY AT SYDNEY. The following are the details of the race won by the Auckland-owned horse Coala at the Warwick Farm Meoting on the 18th instant: —

The Brush Hurdle Race, a Handicap of SOsovs. Two miles.

Mr. C. Philpot's b g Coala, aged, by Hawthornden— Crochette, 12st (l.aine) 1 Mr. M. Griffin's br g Marsden, 6yrs or aged, list 71b (Kei«hran) .. . 2 Mr. \V. H. Keith's ch g The Hero, 4yrs, 9st 121b (Higgins).. 3 Other starters: Waratah, lOst 121b; Kissing Cup, lOst 121b; Rosstellan, lOst Bib; Towri, Iflst; MaydayV9stl2ll>; Oliver, 9st IMb ; Greenhide, 9st 71b ; Mython, 9st7lb; Martinet, 9st 51b ; Our BUI, 9st; Laddie, 9st; Marigold, 9st.

Betting : 6 to v. The Hero, 9 to 2 Waratah, 6 to 1 Coala, 6 to 1 Marsden, 8 to 1 Mayday 10 to 1 others.

Coala led over the first jump, followed by Waratah, Marigold, Mython, and Our Hill, with Laddie and Oliver last, but after going a couple of furlongs Marigold, Mython, Coala, The Hero, and Mayday was the order, while Oliver baulked and pulled up. Kntering the straight Marigold led Coala, but passing the stand Coala, The Hero, and Marsden were together, a couple of lengths in front of Marigold, and Our Bill, Towri. and Mython baulking. Going out from the straight Coala took command from Marsden, the pair being followed at an interval of a couple of lengths by Marigold, Our Bill, and The Hero, Waratah falling back last. Coala held his lead from this out, his nearest followers being Marsden, The Hero, Marigold, Martinet, and Kissing Cup a3 the straight was entered, and eventually won easily by three lengths from Marsden, who was followed at an interval of a length by The Hero. Kissing Cup was fourth, with Martinet fifth, and then at a long interval came Mayday and Marigold. Time, 3m. 57£s.

From the tone of a cablegram received during last week it was understood that Coala was being brought to Auckland by the s.s. Anglian, with a view to fulfil his engagement in the Graud National Hurdle Race, to be run on the Bth June; but this conclusion has turned out to be incorrect, as the horse is still in Sydney. The Union Company's steamer Manapouri is fixed to leave Sydney to-morrow, and it is stated that Coala will bo shipped to Auckland by that vessel. However, until it is known for certain that the horse is on his way to Auckland, it will be as well for the public to exercise caution in backing him. THE TAKAPUNA MEETING.
