TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL.
At a meeting of the Trades and Labour Council, held in the Foresters Hall, Newton, on Saturday evening, the executive officers of all the affiliated unions met the Council to discuss the desirability of establishing a Labour paper for this colony, to be published in Wellington, as recommended by the Trades Conference held at Christchurch recently. After some discussion it was decided, " That the Council will pay its share of the expense of printing a prospectus, and ask for other necessary information from Wellington, the report to be submitted at a meeting to be held on June 22." At this sfage the Council thanked the visitors for their attendance. The Council instructed their secretary to thank the Hon. Mr. Seddon and other members of the Government for deciding to erect the Auxiliary Asylum on the co-operative system, and also to convey to the Hon. W. Jennings, M.L.C., the Council's thanks for initiating and bringing the matter to its present issue. It was decided to write to the Minister of Labour about the continued practice of some employers deducting from wages money to pay insurances. The Council appointed Messrs. \V. C. Fraser and W. Johnston as their representatives on the Central Council.
