'•' The Northern Co.'s steamer Clansman Wtived yesterday morning from Mangonui, Whangaroa, and Russell, with a cargo of kauri gum, coal, oysters, etc. Yesterday morning the Northern Co.'s steamer Chelmsford;arrived from Whakataue, Tauranga, and Whangamata, and leaves again for the same places at 9 o'clock this morning. The Union Co.'s steamer Poherua left for the Bluff last evening, where she loads produce for this port, calling at Oamaru and Timaru en route. i Last night the Northern Co.'s steamer Wellington left for Whangarei. The barquentine Handa Isle tows down to the Thames to day to load timber for Melbourne. To-day the Union Company's steamer Ovalau is expected to arrive from Fiji, i Samoa, and Tonga. She leaves for Tonga and Samoa on Wednesday next. DAMAGE TO THE MANAWATU. Wellington, May The steamer Manawatu was taken on the patent slip to-day to ascertain the damage sustained while lying alongside the breastwork, an New Plymouth last Saturday. It was found that the hull had been badly shaken on the port side, and new doubling plates will have to be fitted on for about 16 feet, and other repairs will also have to be effected.
