NEWFOUNDLAND.

THE PROPOSED UNION WITH

CANADA.

Press Association.—Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.

Ottawa, March 20. The Canadian press welcome the proposals for union with Newfoundland, but think the latter's terras exorbitant. The St. John's Government had intimated that, befefe federating, Canada must agree to bore a tunnel under the Strait of Belle Isle at once. This is a narrow passage between the island and the coast of Labrador, 10 miles wide. It is claimed the construction would reduce the time of the voyage from England by one-third.
