Mr. Justice Denxjstok left for the South by the Monowai yesterday. Sir George Whitmoro arrived by the Australia from the East Coast last evening. The Bishop of Salisbury left Lyttelton for Wellington yesterday to attend the consecration of Bishop Wallis. Sergeant McMahon, who has been on a "visit to Sydney, for his health, has returned to Auckland. He is still on sick leave. Archdeacon Dudley and the Rev. Canon MacM array left for Wellington by the Monowai yesterday to attend the consecration of Bishop Wallis at Wellington on the 25th inst.

Mr. Nathan's house and grounds in Hawkstone-street, Wellington, have been purchased by the Hon. Dr. Grace. The marriage of Mr. Alfred Harris, son of Mr. Maurice Harris, C'hristchurch, New Zealand, and Miss Daisy Ethel Benjamin, sixth daughter of Mr. Samuel Benjamin, of Leslie Villa. East Melbourne, took place at the Masonic Hail, Collins-street, on January 9. Dennis Leahy, brother of Mr. J. Leahy, M.L.A., Queensland, was lost in the bush at Thargornindah the other Saturday. A large search party, including his brother, were unable to discover him until Monday, when his dead body was found four miles from the place where he had camped on the previous Friday. Messrs. J. Meek and party, from New Zealand, struck a good thing in a brief sojourn of three months upon the Coolgardie fields. Their claim is the Pakeha, near the Broad Arrow, where they have twelve acres. The reef is 2feet 6inches wide. Recently Mr. Meek arrived in Perth with a small parcel of stone, which, having been assayed by Mr. B. H. Woodward, the Government assayer, gave an average of 1370z to the ton.

At St. Luke's, Mount Albert, a presentation was made to Mrs. A. E. Gilmore (once Miss Violet Kerr Taylor), on Monday, of a Bible, with the following inscription, to the above newly-married young lady, in St. Luke's Sunday-school: — "Presented to Mrs. A. E. Gilmore, on her marriage, by the teachers and scholars of St. Luke's, Mount Albert, Auckland, New Zealand, in token of their love and high esteem for her and for her work, and of their wishes and prayers for her future happiness.—(Signed) Fredk. Lakkins, Incumbent." Mrs. Cilmore made a brief and suitable reply in acknowledgment of the gift. Amongst our present visitors from New South Wales is Mr. Alexander Oliver, Chief Judge of the Land Appeal Court of that colony. Mr. Oliver is an enthusiast in yachting and he has given great attention to the subject of fisheries. Be is empowered by the Government of New South Wales to make inquiry into the fisheries of New Zealand, to see how they are conducted, and the various kinds of fi9h which we have. Mr. Oliver was yesterday introduced to Mr. Sanford, who has a large experience in the fish business and all that pertains to it. Mr. Oliver will leave for the South at an early date, bub will return to Auckland.
