[BY telegraph.—own CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Tuesday. Shabemarket. — Hazelbank, sellers 9d ; May Queen, sellers 4s 9d; Moanataiari, sellers 4s fid ; Bonanza, sellers Is fid ; United, sellers sd ; Retreat, sellers 7d; Broken Hill, sales 7d, 6Jd, sellers 7d. Quarterly Gold Retorns.—The following return shows the quantity of gold won in the Thames disbriot during the quarter ending December 31sb lasb :— oz. dwfc.gr. Thames Borough w ... 3337 8 12 Thames County ... ... 3295 11 0 Total ... ... ... 6632 19 12 Victor™.— A portion of the leader upon which the company has commenced operations at No. 4 level was broken down today. It proved to be about three inches in thickness, and showed some nice colours of gold. Alburnia. manager has deemed the return of amalgam from last week's crushing to be sufficiently satisfactory as to warrant him to keep the company's battery going 16 hours per day instead of eight hours, and made a start yesterday with the new arrangement.

May Queen. —The crosscut at No. 6 level still continues to penetrate tight sandstone. There is no chance to report yet in either the No. 4 or north-west lodes, as the former is yet a good deal split up, and the latter is small. A start will be made on Thursday to crush the quartz on hand from Clarkon'a leader.

KARANGAHAKE. ■ (BY telegraph.—own CORRESPONDENTS.] Paeroa, Tuesday. Earl of Glasgow (Karangahake) starts crushing next week. Ib continues to get fair ore from the lode. United.—This claim is making good headway with the level, and expect to cut the lode in about 90 feet. Mariner and Eileen.— claims are amalgamated under the name of Mariner, 60 acres, and contain a strong lode six feeb in width in good country, nearly traversing the whole property. Plenty of backs are available and conveniently situated. Wealth of Nations.— surveyors will be finished on Thursday. While surveying the lode was unearthed, and found to be running throngh the centre of the ground, and is 15 feet in width on the burnt kauri spur at Dubbo creek. The old track to the Silver King reef is being cleared, and as soon an the company is formed, work on both lodes will be commenced.

Victor. — understand that work will be commenced here on Mr. Seaver's return from Auckland. Both it and the Royal Mail adjoining are in kindly country, and contain payable reefs. ■ > KAPANGA. Coromandbl, Tuesday. I.egge's party finished their crushing of general stuff, and obtained 3950z. They hare taken it to the Thames. The company obtained 3310z from a parcel of specimens. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Orlando (January 19). —The bottom of the winze was reached at a depth of 32 feet from the level. Sinking is being continued underneath where the former party knocked off in order to see if the run of gold continues down. The reef is wall defined and is encased in good country. Gold was seen in some of the pieces of quartz that were broken out from the reef close to the bottom. At present the reef is being stripped and will be taken down on Monday. United (Karangahake, January 19).— drive has been extended 12 feet, which makes a total of 226 feet. The country continues good, but hard. Norfolk (January 19). —The drive on the California reef at the Missouri level has been extended a further distance of 16 feet. The reef in the face is very large at present. We are carrying about three feet of the footwall portion with us. This is the best-looking portion at present. I should not be surprised to see an improvement in the reef at any time, as the country we are penetrating is all that could be desired for gold. There is a strong flow of water coming from the face, and almost every day it is increasing, but so far it has not drained the water off from No. 3 level. New Moanataiari (January 21). —The country in the south-east prospecting crosscut on the 150-feet level continues much the same, and the face of the drive was extended 15 feet for the week. There are still two men prospecting around the old workings on No. 9 reef underneath the point where the big patch was got. On Jones's lead in the eastern drive at the 100 feet level there is still a good class of country being penetrated, and the lode itself is a nice kindly class of quartz, showing good strong colours of gold at each breaking down. There are two stopes in hand here, but the quartz coming to hand from both is of very low grade. The usual number of men are still being employed on the Golden Age footwall leads and the Dawn of Hepe lead above the Point Russell lovel. The drive eastward on the latter is being extended with two shifts. There is no quartz in the drive, as the lead drops on to the big reef just over the back of the level. There is, however, about two feet of the hungingwall of the big reef being taken, so that the level serves two purposes, namely, opening up the Dawn of Hope and proving the hangingwall of the Golden Age. There has not been any ticked stone got from any of the workings here for the past week, consequently the dirt treated at the battery has yielded poor. Amalgam for the week, 40oz from 76 tons quartz and lOoz from 141 tons surface dirt. __„^_
