HARBOUR FACILITIES.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I read in your issue of January 16th that it was stated at the last meeting of the Harbour Board that Auckland's facilities for loading and unloading vessels were equal to those possessed by Wellington. Anyone who has seen the splendid wharf cargo system in Wellington, as carried out by their able and energetic secretary the 40-ton crane, the various hydraulic lifts with look-oub on top, and the easy and convenient method of moving goods in and about their large and commodious sheds, can only wonder how such an assertion could be made. Indeed, sir, Auckland is far, far behind when comparison is made with the immense advantages which '.ships and steamers possess at the capital port, and whereby trade and commerce are attracted. lb is to be hoped' that Mr. Napier, seeing our manifest deficiencies, will so arouse his fellow-members, that with the commencement of this new year, 1895, the Auckland Harbour Board, rising superior to the interest of local companies and individuals will intelligently endeavour to make some headway in the direction in which Wellington is so preeminent to our great trade disadvantage. — lam, etc., Poke.
