SOUTHERN REGATTAS.

THE WELLINGTON YACHT RACES.

CANTERBURY JUBILEE CELEBRATION.

[BY TELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.

Wellington, Thursday. The amount of prize money for the regatta, is £232.

The crack Lyttelton yacht, Mascotte, which is to compete in first-class championship yacht race at the Anniversary Regatta, arrived from Lyttelton late last night. She had a fine weather passage from Lyttelton. The Waitangi will race under the colours of the Auckland Yacht Club in the first-class championship, as she does not become the property of the Wellington syndicate until the day after the regatta. A question as to whether the Waitangi could be considered an " outside" boat was dealt with by the Regatta Committee, who decided that if Mr. Logan signed the entry form describing the yacht as sailing under the auspices of the Auckland Yacht Club, the entry should be taken as from an outside boat. It is understood Mr. Logan will sign accordingly. It was stipulated that the prize for the first-class race should be £100 if two outside boats competed, and as the Waitangi and Mascotte make up the required number the maximum prizemoney will be paid. Mr. Logan will sail the Waitangi. She is to be taken on the slip to-morrow to have some copper replaced. During the voyage from Auckland she displayed a great turn of speed on the wind, surprising those on board.

Although a very small boat compared with the other competitor, the owner of the Napier yacht, Atalahta, intends to sail her in the big event, in preference to the race tor second-class boats.

Both the Atalanta and the Waitangi had a very rough time in Palliser Bay, where they experienced a heavy northerly sea. The general opinion in yachting circles here is that the Waitangi requires more ballast, but Mr. Logan holds the contrary view, and intends to sail her as she is.

Christchurch, Thursday. The Christchurch Regatta Committee has decided to hold the annual regatta on the Estuary on February 28. At a meeting of the Lyttelton Regatta Committee the sum of £50, part of the balance from the last regatta, was transferred to the jubilee account—a fund for holding a two or three days regatta to celebrate the jubilee of the province of Canterbury.
