WELLINGTON NEWS NOTES.
[by TELEGRAPH.—OWN correspondent.] Wellington, Thursday. THE PREMIER.
The Premier left town this afternoon en route to Napier, whore he is to deliver a political address to-morrow evening. lb is understood that the Prem'or's family have come to reside in Wellington, and will occupy one of the Ministerial residences during the remainder of his tenure of office. A HALF-HOLIDAY CONFERENCE.
A point is raised as to whether the persons sent to the Conference by local authorities shall vote as delegates according to the instructions of the local authority which sends thorn or as representatives according to their own independent judgment. The word "delegate" is used by the Act, and it is understood this is the function contemplated.
FILING IN THE SUPREME COURT. A somewhat important case has been decided by the Wellington Stipendiary Magis trate. A man of property was sued for maintenance by his wife. An order was made that the defendant should pay the wife a pound a week. The magistrate said he would cause the order to be filed in the Supreme Court, which would have the effect of making it a first charge on defendant's property. FOG SIGNALS AND SHIPMASTERS. This town has been pervaded the last two days by the most excruciating sounds from fog-horn experiments. The shipmasters of the port are, it is stated, to approach the Colonial Treasurer before his departure for England, to make enquiries while there, respecting the common powder fog-signals which are used at the Eddystone lighthouse, and the shore stations in England and Canada.
